SPECIAL MENTION OF KERALA STREET FOOD FESTIVAL. The above is an excuse to share what follows.  Once again compliment Mathrubhoomi team for the fabulous job by them.

The Kerala street food festival was more awesome than the stars at the show. It was huge and that would be an understatement. It is a temporal memory that will be etched in mind and heart. Don’t know when will be the next experience of this order.

The Kerala Street Food and Culture fest deserves a special mention-. Personally, I experienced culture through Pooram Vedikettu (festival fireworks), Panchavadhyum (orchestra of five traditional instrument), Kathakali, Kalaripayuttu (Martial art originating in Kerala), Kaikottikali (dance performed by maidens) and later the perfect mix of Suraj Mani and Tattva Trip.

It was impossible not to be enchanted by the aroma coming out of those stalls. In the limited time, starting with the Goti Soda, and followed that with the Sulaimani (traditional Malabar lime tea), Chased with Thodi and later with beer and Whisky. Support cast included Banana Chips, Chakka Varuthathu (Jack fruit chips), Sharkara Upperi (jaggery Coated banana finger chips) and Andi Chutathu (Roasted cashew nuts). The concoction may sound risky to few but at that moment it was utter bliss.

If this was not enough out of the many options laid out in style, going with my foundation I safely found company with Mahe Fish Biryanai (first time I had a fish biryani), Thalaserry Mutton Biryanai, Aappam, Neriya Pathari (slender roti made from rice), kallapam (toddy fermented rice roti), Kozhi Porichath (Kerala special roasted chicken) and Chemeen Kakkathil (Prawns). There was enough yet to be tasted but then I had to tell myself- Control, as sweet dish was still to happen. At Halwa Bazzar I tasted some 5 different Halwa varieties and two different varieties of Payasam.

MB-English-logoOverall it had 5 signature welcome drinks, 7 options of munchies, 13 varieties of salads and pickles, 5 biryani’s, 8 varieties of authentic rice breads, 4 veg items (not tasted) 7 Non veg items, 5 sea food spreads and 8 sweet spreads.  Top that with Toddy and Drinks corners.

THIS ITSELF WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD REASON TO GO THERE.
