RANG DEY MUJHE PINKAVA. PINK- MOVIE REVIEW

By | 17/09/2016

This is a film every person above a certain age should see. Censor board may believe the age to be over 18 and give it a UA certificate. I clearly think otherwise. I pray that the Government declares it TAXFREE, and the LANGUAGE DUBS are shown across the nation.

NO, it is still not a 5-Star rating film. Just so that people should not think that a better film ( more so- courtroom drama ) on a vibrant subject and social issue cannot be made. This is a film which questions the UGLY male point of view and their judgmental attitude and the issue affecting independent working women in a city.

OH ! My bad, the issue of women in every part of the nation. We don’t have to go far to feel the truth. I personally know a few who clearly represent the mindset depicted in the film. Sometime or the other in a crowded celebrator male bonding event, swayed by the drink induced mind, we too have seen the picture with such a clouded mindset.

So, let us get the basic fact right, and when anyone says NO, it means NO, NAHI. STOP. It is a sentence in itself and needs no explanation. The so called coded hints and algorithms that operate in the feudalistic mindset and yet to be liberated in mind male population are all bullshit. Wearing Skirt, Tank Tops, jeans or any other garment with or without skin show, having boyfriends or friends who are males, being Virgin or not, drinking, laughing, being friendly, talking and touching a male or even being along with him, is not an HINT. Now get that a Even if money has been exchanged and the lady changes her mind, still NO means NO, never means YES. And moreover, coming from the spouse too, NO means NO.

It is a well-made non complicated screenplay, a courtroom dram that is well directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury.

We can start by applauding Amitabh Bachchan (Deepak Sehgall ) for his superlative performance as an old lawyer, suffering from some disorder and is now stepping back in the courtroom after ages! . He is there to defend the three girls living across the street. He has witnessed a part of the episode, that gives him that added conviction to fight the case.

Nevertheless, the three girls played by Tapasee Pannu (Minal- the main pivotal role), Kirti Kulhari(Falak) and Andrea Tairang (Andrea) hold the film together by their determination, fear, helplessness, willing compromise at one moment and a finely independence is all reflected brilliantly.

Oh! By the way, the act of polarity, positive and negative, the chalk and cheese works. The action, characterization, treatment and courtroom presence of Amitabh and Piyush Mishra (Prashant), the prosecution lawyer is the highlight of the film.

The young males hardly have a role in PINK other then laying the foundation for the court room. Rajveer (Angad Bedi) is in the firm, but then you could have cast anyone for that role.

For a change, the courtroom, the judge and the public, all look far more real. The Delhi by lanes of Amar Colony is beautifully shot, though the location, It does look repeated. If I am correct, it has also been used in some other film. I for one am not cribbing.

The dialogue writer fortunately has been a miser with words, allowing for the pauses to accentuate the drama, no hyperbole and no overt cinematic license in the courtroom. This all allows the actors to use their emotions and expressions to convey a large part of narrative.

Shoojit Sircar should be proud of his act in adding to his earlier work, ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Piku’ ( I Loved these two) and ‘Madras café’. No, it is not perfect, there are some situational errors that one can comfortably ignore. I find no reason to point them at this stage.

PINK IS A RELEVANT FILM. Please go and watch it.

If you have kids above 14, don’t be dissuaded with the UA certification, there is nothing to cringe about.

Just for the record, with this I stop criticizing Amitab Bachchan for having used the ‘letter to the grand-daughter’ wrongly timed to promote the film. You may argue that it was genuine and the mistale was in order, I will continue not to be impressed with any argument.
