‘BADHAI HO’ to Indian Cinema and audience. It is not every day that a movie like ‘BADHAI HO’ gets made and find massive acceptance with the audience.
I am sticking my neck out in loudly recommending- go watch this offbeat entertainer and be pleasantly surprised.
The cast is superb, and every one gives a performance that is worth talking about. It is not just an Ayushmann Khurrana film. It is the film of Neena Gupta, Sanya Malhotra, Gajraj Rao and many other.
This is not an everyday situation in Indian families. The setting is perfect. Ticket Examiner (TTE) Gajraj Rao lives in Lodhi Colony Delhi with his loving wife played by Neena Gupta. Here the walls have more ears than the people living within them. In the small so-called government apartment, the family has his aged mother (Surekha Sikri) who is always finding fault with the daughter in law. Elder working son Nakul (Ayushmann Khurrana) who is in love with his colleague and is thinking of getting married. The younger son in class 12th. And the mom is now pregnant.
The girlfriend, Renee (Sanya Malhotra) is also in love with Nakul. She is from wealthy upper-class family and lives with her mother ( Sheeba Chadha) in a reasonably impressionable locality. And then Nakul’s mother gets pregnant.
The news that it is affects every stakeholder in the family. The neighbours, friends, school brats, loving girlfriend, old mother everyone soaks it in in their own style.
I like the script by Shanatanu Srivastava, Akshat Ghildial and Jyoti Kapoor. It is a perfect interpretation of reactions. Yes, there are few very cliched over the top moments where the film falters a bit. However, these rarely affect you. You as an audience are deeply engrossed in the situation and play along with the story.
Amit Sharma, the director, has been able to hold the story together with his impressive cast. Badhhai ho.
I am not pointing to anyone for exceptional performance. As everyone has just immersed themselves in the role. Be it Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, Sanya Malhotra and Gajraj Rao. When you see them on screen, they are very much the person next door. They are real and live. You can feel their thoughts.
Badhaai Ho. There is no good enough reason to miss ‘Badhai Ho’. So, go and watch it with the family or friends- whatever works for you. BUT DON’T MISS IT. I won’t mind watching it again.
