I never bothered when I turned 20-30 or 40. So seem like there is nothing much to think about 50. But if that was the case, I would not have been sitting here punching this note in.
‘50’ is just another number that through ages has been elevated to some sort of a milestone. When it comes to your age- 50- can be something of a barrier- facilitator- or best of all ‘Just another Number’. It is upon you to decide what you make out of it. You want to be that ever young in mind phase or add more weights to already greying hair by sounding a lot more sensible.
50 get its importance from the importance of 100. It was the age that the RISHI MUNI would bless you with. 50 was just the mid milestone of the whole process. Now in current era- this is mostly a stock-taking year- with a decade to be left for retirement and 25 years of real productive life ahead- this is the real stock taking year. Here is where you can redefine yourself and take corrective positive actions to still colour your life differently.
It is not the same now days. Earlier turning 50 would mean a lot many things and people would start treating you a bit different.
Then there are few good things about turning 50 and it all depends upon how do you look at them. Joey Adams said ‘Do not worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older it will avoid you’ and this could be true from food- wine to lot many things that crossed your mind as you read it. Victor Hugo said ’40 is the old age of youth and 50 is the young age of old’ and I do like that statement
I do have my own list of THINGS TO DO- BEFORE I TURN 60. This is simpler and allows me to plan. These include weightless ( to avoid age gain), Mansarover Yatra, Seeing a world cup ( any game), Bunge Jump, Paraglider, tickling shark and many more. And a few things that will get out of my life soon and really that will be a challenge to live with
In my case I celebrated my turning 50 just a few hours back. And there was no change. Chivas tasted the same and I still liked chicken leg spicy enough to bring tears. We still drank till early morning and cake fortunately was a chocolate one.
My team and people at office seem to have similar thoughts on me turning 50, and maybe that is more to do with me and cannot be considered a generic statement of things. The team had got me 50 Fortune cookies. Oh hell I did not count- but know it’s easy to say it this way. Many a messages were just Happy Birthday kind- and I think these really never understood me. This could be said for a lot many who tried to be extra polite to my age and compliment me with few lines. It’s my life and hence I would want to remember than more than the other- not so encouraging ones.

that this lovely spirit of adventure, smiles, thoughtfulness, daring and the ability to think beyond set parameters never leave you in the years to come’ Valentine. I think he started in the right path and towards the end tried to be a lot more practical in life.
