The idea is simple and it takes from what is called ‘GOODNEWS’- the news about the pregnancy. However, in the film, it comes with the rider of Sperm mix-up in an IVF (in-vitro fertilization) procedure.
There are two couples. Deepti (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and Varun Batra (Akshay Kumar), and Honey (Diljit Dosanjh) and Monika (Kiara Advani), Both are Mrs and Mr Batra. Unfortunately, their IVF procedure is in the same period resulting in the mixup. Honey sperms have fertilized the eggs of Deepti and Varun’s sperms has fertilised Monika’s eggs. So what will they do now? Will the fatherly love develop for the baby in wives belly, that is actually a result of her eggs and someone else’s sperm?
It attempts to remain a light-hearted comedy. Appreciably there is no gyanbaazi. However, the film starts dragging after some time, and you start waiting for the credits to roll on. Blame that more on screenplay and limitation of the subject. First-time director Raj Mehta’s is unable to keep the film tight and has succumbed to that loud music and dance in the name of Delhi and Chandigarh event. Maybe the director missed a Ganesh song to boost sales- even though the film is in Mumbai.
GOODNEWS is not a complete letdown. So what if there are stereotyped situations and characters. However, hardly any double meaning dialogues.
Watch it once in case you have run out of ideas on what to do with your time.
Kareena Kapoor Khan gives a good enough performance of a career-minded lady now wanting to have the baby at a late stage in her life. Akshay Kumar scores with his comic timing. However, at some places ( more when he has to be really angry or weep) he remains as expressionless as John Abraham. Diljit Dosanjh plays his character over the top. It is Kiara Advani who fits the character best. She is so into it that you are on her side most of the time.
GOODNEWS Cast – Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Diljit Dosanjh, Adil Hussain, Tisca Chopra. Director – Raj Mehta
