NOT MY KIND OF BOOK
Sometimes you should judge the book by its cover and listen to your own gut feeling. Unfortunately I did not and end up reading SPYING IN HIGH HEELS- by GEMMA HALLIDAY. ( Oh it says this was on New York Times Bestselling Author list)- must not be the book.
Defined as HIGH CRIME meets HIGH FASHION- the book back cover served an interesting synopsis “L.A. shoe designer, Maddie Springer, lives her life by three rules: Fashion. Fashion. Fashion. But when she stumbles upon the work of a brutal killer, her life takes an unexpected turn from Manolos to murder. And things only get worse when her boyfriend disappears – along with AUD20 million in embezzled funds – and her every move is suddenly under scrutiny by the LAPD’s sexiest cop. With the help of her post-menopausal bridezilla of a mother, a 300 pound psychic and one seriously oversexed best friend, Maddie finds herself stepping out of her stilettos and onto the trail of a murderer. But can she catch a killer before the killer catches up to her…“
This is part of the HIGH HEELS MYSTERIES and I am informed that there are many in the series. Must be. But not my taste or my liking. – The other books are ‘KILLER IN HIGH HEELS’ , ‘UNDER COVER IN HIGH HEELS’ , ‘FEARLESS IN HIGH HEELS’, ‘MAYHEM IN HIGH HEELS’, ‘DANGER IN HIGH HEELS’ and ‘ALIBI IN HIGH HEELS’
There is lot of misplaced humour. Must say that at times the author is able to keep you engaged- but these are minor moments. Most of the time – to me it has been too simplistic in both crime- passion- fashion and humour. There is an attempt of some subplots that are more interesting to follow and what I hate most- at the end the crime solution is an accidental check and too simple for me to have read so many pages.
WILL NOT PICK ANOTHER ‘HIGH HEELS’ IN BOOKSTORE
