Ok. That is it. HAPPY NEW YEAR ( HNY) the Diwali treat from Bollywood for PATRIOTIC INDIAN AUDIENCE. It was supposed to be a simple homemade biryani that turned out to be not well cooked Pulav. Nevertheless, we know there are Palav lovers who want everything.
It is a GLOCAL adaptation for Indian tase. And it can be said it is influenced and inspired by Ocean’s 13 and Henry’s Crime.
It is definitely typecasting a new type of Cinema, The FARAH KHAN CINEMA. You may not like it. Critiques may drill holes in it. However, like Govinda movies the audience tends to serve a different verdict.
Ok here is the Pulav.
It is PATRIOTIC. In the end-, it leaves you with a PROUD INDIAN feeling. Our thieves also are moralistic and the call for duty is far higher than the personal agenda. It is a REVENGE STORY where revenge happens at many level. Revenge for the Dad who was framed wrongly. Revenge for the friend who was framed. There is debate on MOTIVATION and how that ensures success. Motivation to earn for mother’s treatment. Motivation to pay back to the family that supported you. Motivation to open a school for children. In addition, yes, weaved in are comments on how women should be treated in society. It again explains that the Bar Dancer does it for some need and compulsion not as a choice. That IZZAT – RESPECT is everything. That the people outside the bar and their reaction makes a bar dancer feel cheap and not the customer inside. Some Mr. Patil in Maharashtra should note it. It is a TRANSITION FILM for an actor that is aging fast and has to act his age with or without the eight packs. It is a ROMANTIC FILM with a difference, lady wooing the man. It also has the VILLAIN and his corny son who is easy to seduce but no he does not rape. It has HAMMING of the highest order ad builds on all hit dialogues and scenes of past hits. Moreover, if that was not enough, there are TWIST built in, some you can see and some like a doosara that takes you with surprise.
With all this departmental store like HYPERCINEMAN MART, it is easy to overlook loopholes in the plot or unexplained events . The grand sets and loaction and the costume; all add to create the the mayajaal the diversion. Like a good Indian magician Farah Khan is able to just nudge the bar and hopes not to make you hate her moviie. Seeing audience reaction in the show and after it- I must confess she succeeds in it.
She could have done herself a favour by keeping the length a lot shorter. I pity her plight. She had 6 ( atleast 5) characters to be introduced. Each with a story to tell that must merge into mother of all story holding the tatterred screenlay. There are atleast 3 rounds of dancing to make it look like the WORLD DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP. And remember along side the Diamonds are yet to be stolen. Come-on its tough to make it shorter.
Trust me this NEW YEAR, ‘Indiawale’ and ‘Nonsense Ki Night’ are two song that will be played a lot, unless until PK does some wonder. (The trailor suggest that Aamir Khan has another super film releasing on 19th December)
No there are no story spoliers here. It is a film where Chandermohan Manohar Sharma (SRK) wants to take revenge for his Dad. So, he brings together a set of losers to do a perfect crime; the biggest heist of Diamond while they compete in World Dance Competition representing India.
Abhishekh Bacchan and Deepika are the star of the show with their talented performances. AB Junior hows that there is a hugely untapped potential that the Indian audience are being deprived of. Deepika walks through the part but does something more than just an item number. She is offcourse the qualified Dance teacher for this bunch of loser. The best part is her introduction when she gets turned on and falls for SRK because he speaks in English. And for AB Junior don’t miss the scene of him in the safe playing his role in the heist.
With SRK showing a 8 pack. Sonu Sood is wasted and so is his 6 packs. You can actuall hear an audible sigh in the hall when SRK exposed for one and only time. Boman is under utilised and is becoming too typecast as a Parsi charcater.
The film never reaches the tense climax. There are no any nail biting moment. You never question what will happen as you know what will happen. That’s how predictible it is. And this is the weakest part of the film.
Though it’s a great ad film for ATLANTIS the hotel and Dubai the destination.
