Here is a simple question for the writers. When considering entering a short story contest, do you wonder: Should I wait for the perfect story idea before registering, or should I register first and let the story come later? If you do, let me assure you, it is a common dilemma for many writers—waiting for that spark of inspiration, thinking the perfect tale will suddenly appear before you take the leap. But remember the small story. A person prayed to the god- please let me win the lottery. And the god told him- hey, I can only do so- if you don’t procrastinate- trust me and buy the ticket.
And here is my suggestion: Maybe you shouldn’t wait for the story. Registering for the contest can become your first step, a commitment that will help the story unfold in your mind. Remember, you must take the first step to reach the destination, and every step counts.
The truth is stories are everywhere, in every moment. Every interaction, observation, or memory has the potential to become a narrative, especially for those of us with roots in a place as vibrant as Uttarakhand. I recall seeing a T-shirt somewhere. I am a writer, so anything you do or tell me maybe fictionalised!
So, if you are from Uttarakhand or have studied or worked there for over a year and want to write or share your stories, don’t wait—register for PAHAADI Season 5, the short story contest dedicated to celebrating the talent of writers with roots in Uttarakhand.
Don’t let procrastination or indecision hold you back. Life constantly creates stories around us. The essence of a good storyteller is recognising these little moments and weaving them into a tale worth sharing. Oh, there is so much to capture and so many stories to share.
So here’s a nudge: stop pondering whether the story or the registration should come first. Sometimes, the best way to overcome that little bit of doubt and the resultant hesitation is to commit to oneself and hit that registration button. You’ll be surprised how quickly the ideas begin to flow when there’s a little deadline in sight and the excitement of having taken the first step.
Come to think of it, making a choice is a story—one of seizing the opportunity, taking a leap of faith, and letting your roots guide your creativity.
So don’t wait! Register now, commit yourself emotionally, and let that spark lead you forward. Pahaadi Season 5 is waiting for your voice, your story.
Embrace the challenge, and let your Uttarakhand spirit come alive in words!
And maybe if you need help- you could register for STORY WRITING WEBINAR ( scheduled 23rd Nov 2024) and STRYFEEDBACk- which gives you the advantage of detailed feedback to improve your entry.
