This was neither was on my MUST WATCH LIST nor was I waiting for it. But something prompted me to see it on Friday afternoon. That makes it as near the first day first show I have been in long time.
The movie is good- till it last. But falls flat in the last 15-20 minutes which seems to be an extension. A forced one. This is the time when Rani Mukherji as expected catches up with the crook. She has a gun but then she does what even Amitabh Bacchan the Young Angry Man has tried very few times. She unclips the bullets and then ask the guy to fight her to save himself. ( Cooli- closing of shutter- but then Amitabh did not had a gun). If that is not enough Director Pradeep Sarkar ( Dada I love your work) decides that Rani must share how she could reach at the right address and how could she escape. Otherwise the intelligent viewers may not get it and be troubled by lose end. Don’t think that was needed.
But the best woman cop ever in films been VIJYASHANTI. Rani is not even a patch on her. Thankfully through out the movie she is the decent cop- fully clothed. Drug and child trafficking was fine and no one was bothering, till PYARI a girl known to the superwoman- RANI MUKHERJI ( Shivani Shivaji Toy) – the cop goes missing. This is her motivation to catch them. The expected cat and Mouse games start with cheeky dialogues and a set of excellent performances. Rani was better than I expected. And if you delete the last few minutes- she done wonderful including the walk, the confidence and the crude banter in Mumbai language. TAHIR BHASIN is a actor to watch out for. Playing the cruel- no nonsense smart kingpin of flesh trade. The one Rani is after.
Expect it to have a slow start and if it runs into 2nd week- it would be on its word of mouth references. Then it will go to make new set of recrods for a woman centric- woman lead- fresh villian film. This is not a genre that we know YASh RAJ banner for. I don’t really blame them for it. I applaud them for making MARDAANI.
