‘Missys’ Musings.’ The little book sent by Ramesh Narayan had been sitting with me for quite some time, patiently waiting for its turn. And when I finally opened it, I realised what a gem it is. Missy Musings is a collection of Ramesh Narayan’s Facebook and Instagram posts, written in the voice of Missy — yes, the Missy — social media’s most famous pet and star of the film on adopting strays.
It’s funny, thoughtful, and full of those sharp little truths that only dogs (and their humans) seem to understand. Missy talks about everything — from human habits to life’s small moments — and somewhere between her words, you can almost hear Ramesh chuckling, firing a few thoughts from behind her furry shoulders.

I do my annual “uncaging” of books — giving away those I’ve read and loved so someone else can enjoy them — but I have a feeling Missy Musings won’t be uncaged anytime soon. I only wish Ramesh had an e-book version; more people deserve to read Missy’s wise and witty take on life.
As I read, Milo Kotnala kept watching me — probably understanding and sensing what had me smiling one minute and sighing the next. And honestly, because, just like Missy did with Ramesh, Milo has trained me well — to slow down, to listen, to live better.
We were once a “one-dog” family (and that one was me, jokingly). Now, I can’t imagine being without the beagle Milo kotnala. And if I ever adopt again, it’ll definitely be an Indie. As Missy says — they’re hardy, super intelligent, affectionate, and perfectly suited for our climate. And they’re waiting for love — for free.
Here’s a small taste of Missy’s musings that stayed with me:
“Humans are obsessed with buying random stuff they don’t really need. We dogs don’t do that. If we can’t eat or play with something, we just pee on it and keep walking.”
And this one, beautifully biting —
“I dedicate this World Animal Day to those animals who call themselves something else and choose to call us animals.”
Missy Musings is warm, witty, and wonderfully wise — the kind of book that makes you grin, reflect, and hug your pet a little tighter.
