‘OUR SONG’ by MILAN VOHRA – a strong melody.

Milan Vohra, known as India’s first Mills & Boon author has been a colleague in my advertising days.  This is her third book. And it starts with a similar scene. It lets you know at the beginning that  ‘Ragini is not really a damsel, and she’s certainly not in any major distress’. After that, you know that soon a Knight in Shining Armour will appear. There will be some situational misunderstandings, maybe fights but in the end, the girl will get her guy. It is a romance story and this end is expected.

It is between the damsel in distress and the happy end that Milan weaves her magic. And it pivots around Andrew who is heading the Pharma company as a deal with his grandfather. He keeps his personal life separated from professional life, till he gives Ragani the important assignment to create a corporate AV for his company.

The story holds your attention. You do want to read on

Milan has this genre worked out pat, and she doesn’t let the reader down. The one minor flaw, if one can call it that, in the story is that Ragini’s relationship with her mom appears more convenient than convincing. Ragini, who’s instrumental in helping Andrew mend fences with his estranged father, makes no attempt to reach out to her mom. Manav, her ex, and her mom feel like cardboard characters that were only needed to provide a context for Ragini finding herself on her own in Bangalore. Given how feisty, determined, and driven she is, one wonders why she didn’t put up a fight. However, this does not impede the love journey; in fact, it aids it.

Music, hope, and love, not necessarily in that order, place ‘Our Song’ in a universe that craves and creates harmony.
