After the worldwide release, Pathan collected more than 200 Cr on day 3. It opened on 8000 screens across 100 countries, the max screens for any Indian movie.
It is on its way to becoming a hit movie, if not a blockbuster- something Bollywood desperately needs. And if RRR, Bahubali and KGF can be a success- Pathan has everything to be another success. And definitely, as a larger-than-life stunt and sequences are meant for a large screen experience. The King is back.
How the audience has been waiting for the SRK movie. It is apparent from the whistling and shouting in the hall with his entry. The sound is equally loud when Bhaijaan makes a cameo and when SRK and BhaiJaan come together after the credits. The audience waited for the post-credit entertainment. Do not miss it.
The music is fine and somewhat loud for my liking. However, the audience seems to enjoy every bit of it, including ‘Jhoome jo pathaan’ and ‘Besharam’. The controversial orange dress was missing from the song, but it makes an appearance in the movie for a short window.
I do not see any reason in this cinema version that would / should/ could call for a boycott. The producers and director team has done well in handling earlier issues people had with the movie.
The story is not new; somewhere, it is easy to see where it is going. And that is the only shortfall of the movie. The positive is that despite it, the film is an outright entertainer, paisa vasool, Taali- Sheeti maro family entertainer.
Deepika’s acting ability was challenged, and she looked stale. John, as the villain, was refreshing, and for a change, we had a friendly smiling handsome hunk of a villain.
SRK delivers as an agent Pathyan who has outrun his utility for the agencies but still has the passion and the tools to deliver. Something that defines SRK phase in his career.
I appreciate the director’s attempt to explain a few things. However, it meant there were more than 4 stories to be told before they could converge- and that was too much. SRK for a change acts age, and that is a good change.
Patthan adds to YRF film SPY UNIVERSE, just like Rohit Shetty’s COP universe with Singham and now another one he is creating over OTT. Every character is allowed to build up and have a good screen presence- be it Ashutosh Rana, Dimple Kapadia or anyone else.
Yes, if you think we show over-the-top stunts and impossible sequences- well, that we have learnt from Hollywood. Yes, you will find some of the sequences adapted and borrowed from other films- but that is fine when they fit into the story and are done with skill. Still, few of the sequences lack credibility and explanation- and that is Okay.
NET-NET ON PATHAN
Watch Pathan, the Family entertainer by SRK, Deepika, John, Dimple And Ashutosh Rana on the big screen. Yes, you can avoid the weekend PVR evening shows where ticket prices are way high; catch it during the afternoon show over popcorn. I don’t think paying anything more than 750 for a luxurious recliner is justified. Maybe for a change, watch it is a single screen, and there could be added audience interaction.
