It is a confession. Today people can come out in open and support same sex marriage. But, it takes guts to shout ‘YES I LOVED SINGH IS BLING (SIB) ’. This can categorically demote one in the virtual social ladder, but then I never cared for it.
It is not a film for you if you are a true SRK Fan. If SALMAN is all you care about , do not go to watch it. If movies for you mean Lunchbox and Manjhi or some award winner in vague circuits, then you would be better off without SIB.
I knew I am different. I used to like Govinda and Kadar Khan movies. Loved Akshay in lot many roles. Had a crush on Vijayeta Pandit. many won’t even know who she was. But anyway, I enjoy situational non-stop stupid senseless jokes and comedy. I even watch ‘Comedy with Kapil’ , The ‘Comedy Classes’ and the new ‘krishna – Bharati Bachaoo’. Yes, I agree, there’s nothing classic about Singh is Bliing. Yet, in my scorebook is worth watching. If a movie for you, is to smile and laugh with your friends and family, if it is to lose the sense of time, responsibility and accountability for those 2 hours, then l step forward this is one for you.
In case you went to TALWARS and you are worked up by its story, maybe ‘Singh Is Bliing’ is just the antidote you need.
So as a franchise ‘Singh is Bliing’ is in the same mould as ‘Singh is Kinng’ . This time it is Raftaar Singh ( Akshay Kumar ) who heads to Goa. There he meets Sara (Amy Jackson),. She is daughter of a Romanian Don. The country is dangerous for her as ‘I am too good’ don Mark (Kay Kay) wants to finish her off for insulting him. So, she is in Goa. Hoping it will allow things to cool down meanwhile she could search for her long-lost mother.
So we have Raftaar who knows no English and sara who knows no hindi, so we get in between Emily (Lara Dutta) as the translator. Now you get the direction. We know late on she will be helped by Raftaar in this process. Finally he will save her from kay kay. They will marry. So there are no surprises.
The dialogue writer and the director leaves nothing to chance, they have dual meaning and suggestive dialogues and expressions. They take liberty quite often and some of the dialogues are worth deleting. There are some sequences dropping them would have shortened film by say 20-30 minutes. I am not mentioning the bikini shot of Amy. That is requirement of story. But, one could have definitely done without Akshay giving Amy a Lap-ride. Though it does bring smile with his reactions.
Amy Jackson looks impressive. She justifies her casting with effortless action scenes. Only if she could emote a bit. I hope she is
not a few film wonder.Lara Dutta creates laughs but she overacts in her attempt to be funny. She once again ( after Chalo Delhi) shows promise in comic roles. Arfi Lamba and Anil Mange, the two dear friends of Raftaar Singh are entertaining in their roles. They leave a mark with their timing and expressions. Rati Agnihotri, Kunal Kapoor and Yograj Singh sleep walk their short roles which they anyway ham to their capabilities.
Akshay gallently holds the film together. He works along the simpleton Surd role with perfected ease. He has done that so many times. He looks so natural with his timing and the smile that makes you wonder the potential that he hides. In SIB, he is in a territory that he knows well. I believe he short changes his own capabilities. But that is for some other day.
The songs “Dil Kare Chu Che” is funny and irrespective of your liking sure to make you smile. And ‘Tung Tung’ something that haunts with its easy lyrics and hummability.
