The Legend of Break-up Bhavani – Part I. Book Review

By | 10/10/2025

Vinay has always been the kind of writer who doesn’t stay in one relationship with a single genre. From ‘The Madness Starts at 9 to ‘Sportivity to ‘Lessons from the Playground’, he’s dabbled, experimented, and kept readers guessing. With The Legend of Break-up Bhavani, he takes the plunge into a playful mash-up—mythology meets campus drama, all wrapped in superhero spandex (with a cape of pun-loaded humour, of course).

The cover screams comic-book cool, the blurb promises chaos, and the pages deliver both—served with a generous side of puns. Bhavani, the superhero at the centre of this universe, isn’t busy saving galaxies. Instead, she’s swooping into a college fest to rescue fragile hearts and discipline the overly dramatic heart-breaking romantics.

The supporting cast deserves applause too: a no-nonsense librarian, a budding journalist-inclined student, the swoon-worthy professor, the college rowdies who think they own the arena, and the brainy underdog who sees more than he lets on. Add in a dash of jealousy, one-sided affection, and you’ve got a mix worthy of a Netflix adaptation or an animated spin-off.

It’s a brisk three-hour read. It’s light, witty, and unafraid of poking fun at itself. The pacing holds, the humour lands, and the characters feel like the ones you might bump into outside the canteen. By the end, Vinay teases us with the promise of a larger world and, yes, a villain waiting in the wings. After all, no hero truly shines without a nemesis.

Verdict? The Legend of Break-up Bhavani – Part I may not change your life, but it will definitely change your mood for the better. It’s playful, punny, and proudly tongue-in-cheek. Pick it up—you’ll want to stay for Part II.

Full disclosure. You may call me biased. Vinay Kanchan is a friend. However, the review is not influenced by the time we spent discussing life over a cup of tea at Chayos—it is an honest and accurate reflection of my thoughts, experience, and take on it.
