30th Episode. ‘It does not matter where I get my appetite from till I eat at home’ is a simple but powerful statement. It also packs within it a great learning. In this new digital age, it can be the strength and the variety in your relationship. True adherence to it is a lot easier and highly recommended.
This statement was delivered by one of my mentor and a Mudraite in Mudra, Ahmedabad office. I am not revealing the name, as he is no more. So, lets call him ‘V’. And on the other side of the conversation was a very dear friend. I have no option but to camouflage her identity too. And give her a label ‘A’
He was in the planning team and part of the Mudra corporate office in Manikam apartments, Ahmedabad. He was a great thinker and a great worker. Result, he always had more than adequate free time on his hand. Well-known to he kept few magazines like Penthouse and playboy in his desk. No Debonair for him. More so, for reasons best known to him he never tried to hide this fact. So, at times you could catch him reading them, Eyes buried in the glossy pages, fingers playing with his well-maintained beard and feet Amitabh style planted on the desk.
‘A’ was a senior client servicing team member. She was tall, a bit on the darker side and of fiercely independent mind. Naturally, in sometime she came to know about this habit/hobby of V. Taking charge of the situation, she decided to confront Mr V.
A : V, I am told you read few dirty books
V : No, No… don’t understand what you hinting at
A : hmmmm … ( fiddles with her sari ) magazine like playboy
V : You want to borrow
A : You have not answered my question
V : Yes I do
A : Even if you do, do you have to do it in office with so many people
V : So, you do not have any problem in my reading them but you are troubled that I read them here
A : Yes
V : Have I ever given any person a reason to crib and complain
A : NO
V : have I ever treated any women badly or teased or anything like that
A : NO
V : So, what is the problem
A : hmmm…. ( looks around).. Does your wife knows about this… so called interest of yours
V : Dear lady let ,e share a secret with you. ‘IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE I GET THE APPETITE FROM TILL I EAT AT HOME’
The smooth talker and a very confident V, having delivered his punch line with a flourish, sits down, places his feet on the table, picks up the magazine in discussion and opens the centerspread to read.
‘A’ having hit someone above her league in conversation, confidence and clarity in life makes a hasty retreat. The only difference after this episode was that V covered the magazines. Seemingly his wife still did not object till he ate at home.
