PAREEKSHA – MOVIE REVIEW

By | 18/08/2020

It is a Prakash Jha movie, and in my books, it must be watched. And this time too Jha does not wholly disappoint in PAREEKSHA streaming on ZEE5.  This time he attacks the racism of another type, classism in education divided by the have and have-nots capability to bear the burden of fees-dress-transport-classes etc. Something that was also addressed in Hindi Medium in a different way.

It is ADIL HUSSAIN who dominates the film and delivers an outstanding performance. His body language and even the way he is seen pulling Rikshaw is so flawless. The scenes where he is pleading or even thinking – he says a lot without speaking a word. And his makeup is so wonderfully close to a rikshaw-puller (ordinary) in real life.

PAREEKSHA  is based/inspired by a real story. Bucchi- the Rickshaw-puller dreams of his talented son studying in a Government school to be educated in the ‘Sapphire International school’, the best private school in the city. A school where he everyday ferries other children.  He wants as he knows that education alone is the way of changing destiny. Rest of the film is all about, how will he support and what will he be pushed to do – so that his son can continue studying. His son’s Pareeksha is the board exam, but Bucchi has to give his own Pareeksha.

The film is very linear, with scenes jumping out with no time. There is a high degree of predictability with the movie, and that is where some fun is lost. But watch it for Adil Hussain.
